Fibromyalgia Diet and Nutrition

Nutrition plays a big role in fibromyalgia.

A fibromyalgia diet is really the most healthy, nutritious diet that everyone should eat. One difference is that you will need to find the foods that irritate your problem and eliminate them.

You may also need extra nutrients that your body may have trouble absorbing.

According to Geneva Diagnostics, “Insufficiencies of nutrients such as magnesium, vitamin D, or sulfur amino acids can promote muscle pain and fatigue.” Further research has shown that a proper mixture of magnesium and malic acid helps reduce the muscle pain related to Fibromyalgia.

The problem is... if you have IBS or leaky gut syndrome, it will be even more difficult to get these nutrients due to the malabsorption issues that go along with digestive problems.

Immunity

This is a very important point that many do not know:
The immune system is generated from the digestive tract.
We have to keep our intestinal tract in excellent condition. That can be accomplished by a number of things such as not smoking, get plenty of rest, keep stress to reasonable levels, avoid unnatural chemicals (breathing or consuming them) and exercise at least a few times a week. But more is required when it comes to your diet. For the ultimate boost in your diet. Try this 30 day plan. It includes your meals and lot of information on cleansing the body and nourishing it with food.

Building Blocks

To build up a healthy digestive tract, you need building blocks. These building blocks include probiotics, enzymes, minerals and antioxidants.

My Search

In my search for relief, I have spent hours researching each of these to find the most important aspects of a fibromyalgia diet.

I lost more than five years in pain, looking for answers from allopathic (medical) doctors. They admitted that they don’t have the answer for fibromyalgia or IBS or Raynaud’s or any of the health problems I have. Then I got on the right track when I went to a Naturopathic Doctor that suggested I read the book“Breaking the Vicious Cycle”. That book changed everything. Within weeks of starting the SCD diet, my IBS stopped and my body pain stopped.(I think it would have been even faster if I had cleansed before or during the beginning of the diet.)

The problem was that while I was on that diet, I was not able to get all of my nutrients. It limits what you can eat drastically. It took 30 days on the diet for the abdominal pain to stop and it stayed gone until the testing time. To incorporated foods back into my diet, I tested them one at a time until I learned what foods I can and cannot have. The whole process took me about a year but it can take some much longer. The book recommends up to 7 years for some conditions such as celiac disease.

I also was concerned about the amount of meat I was eating while on that diet. I had no access to organic meat at the time so I was consuming large amounts of antibiotics and hormones. This diet was acidifying due to that. If I was to do it again, it would be in conjunction with the raw food diet which provides a large variety of foods without the bad carbs and meat.

Supplements

For years, I had completely given up on vitamins and minerals. I felt I could never take them again. They were not part of the SCD elimination diet. And every time I tried to re-introduce them, I did not succeed. About 5 years later, I found that I could handle some high quality supplements. Now, I am sure to take my magnesium/malic acid supplement, which is called Fibralgia, every day along with a Co-Q10 capsule. I can also take omega 3 and plant iron

Since everyone is different, I can't give a blanket 'Fibromyalgia diet, supplement and exercise program'. We each have different needs. The best way to get started is to go to my recommendations page and start with learning more about natural health and how the body works. You will then need to evaluate areas of your life to see if there are chemicals in your life or poisons of some sort. Neurotoxins are everywhere and damage the nervous system. Aspartame, for example, is a serious neurotoxin.
