Fibromites should beware the flu shot

by Amy
(Sedalia, MO, USA)

I'd read about flares caused from getting the flu shot. I even asked my doctor about it. He dismissed my concerns quickly. I got the flu shot.

Let me back up a bit here. My name is Amy and I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia for 13 years now. I'm 28 and live in constant pain. Among other illnesses I also have Hypermobility Joint Syndrome, which increases my pain levels greatly.

Now, on to my story. To sum it up I had a 4 week flare resulting from the flu shot. During the flare I could barely walk and had to ride scooters around at big stores or be pushed in a wheelchair. My pain level got to a 10 on a 1 to 10 scale on somedays.

I just want to tell everyone that before someone gets a flu shot a fibromite should weigh the benefits and risks. I know I won't be getting flu shots anymore.
